The reporter learned from Jiaxing entry exit inspection and quarantine bureau that the General Administration of quality supervision, inspection and Quarantine of the people's Republic of China recently issued an urgent notice requiring that all leather, fur and products imported and exported must be tested for harmful chemicals such as azo dyes and formaldehyde. As the national leather, fur and products export base, Jiaxing has more than 200 enterprises limited this time. It is understood that the AQSIQ issued the "notice on strengthening the detection of harmful chemical substances in leather, fur and products", which divided the products into three categories, a, B and C, and added detection items such as azo dyes and formaldehyde. According to statistics, last year, the number of export batches of the above-mentioned three types of products in Jiaxing reached 9600 batches, with the amount of more than 338 million US dollars. The city's inspection and quarantine system's latest spot check on fur products showed that the unqualified rate of formaldehyde content in 20 fur samples was 20%. The sampling results of Haining inspection and quarantine department also showed that the unqualified rate of azo in 388 samples was 1.3%. It is understood that many raw and auxiliary materials enterprises in Jiaxing City intended to use unqualified leather, fur and their products on the export clothing of non EU countries without mandatory requirements for the use of environmental friendly dyes, which is one of the reasons for the unsatisfactory results of the spot check. For this reason, the entry-exit inspection and quarantine department reminds the relevant production enterprises to improve the production process as soon as possible, control the formaldehyde content, so as to adapt to the new standards and improve the qualified rate of export inspection; at the same time, purchase raw and auxiliary materials from large-scale and reputable suppliers to reduce the risk. In addition, at present, the detection of banned azo dyes has been expanded from 25 EU countries to all export countries and regions. Enterprises should consider the cost of testing when signing contracts with customers, especially for small fur processing enterprises with small batch and small orders.
