Start Carbon Management: Understand The Carbon Footprint Calculation Results Of Cotton T-Shirts

Carbon Footprint

The carbon footprint of different T-shirts is 1.72e, the carbon footprint of each T-shirt is the lowest, and the carbon footprint of each T-shirt is 1.72e, and the carbon footprint of each T-shirt is 1.2 kge, and the carbon footprint of each T-shirt is 1.2 kge, and the carbon footprint of each T-shirt is 1.2 kge.

Tracing to the upstream of the supply chain, the carbon footprint of energy accounts for more than 66%, and the carbon footprint of materials (packaging, auxiliary materials, chemicals) accounts for less than 27%

The main reason why the carbon footprint value of white printed T-shirt is not the lowest is that the number of production pieces is the least, which is not dominant in the whole process of mass production. Because in mass production, the more products are produced, the energy consumption and loss rate per unit product can be reduced after sharing.

Carbon footprint (CF) is a method to analyze the direct and indirect carbon emissions in the product life cycle based on the life cycle theory.

With the support of fashion clothing brand taipingniao, the office of social responsibility of China Textile Federation coordinated the supply chain enterprises and professional technical teams to complete the carbon footprint assessment. So Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to do cotton field research, according to the planting data to calculate carbon emissions. The lcaplus system is used to calculate the data and generate the report, which conforms to the requirements of the code for the assessment of greenhouse gas emissions in the life cycle of goods and services (pas2050) and the international standards organization (ISO) carbon footprint calculation standard (iso14067).

The evaluation takes a printed T-shirt (404g, excluding auxiliary materials such as water mark and tag) as the main body to trace the source to the upstream of the supply chain, that is, "cradle to gate". From the exploitation and processing of raw materials to the manufacturing stage of products, it involves many fields such as clothing industry, textile industry, printing and dyeing industry and agriculture.

From the carbon footprint performance of each production stage, the biological carbon sequestration of cotton planting and ginning stage played a very good role, greatly reducing the performance of carbon footprint. In terms of the contribution of energy and materials (regardless of biological carbon sequestration), the carbon footprint of energy accounts for more than 66%, the carbon footprint of materials (packaging, auxiliary materials, chemicals) accounts for less than 27%, and the level of transportation accounts for 6.5% - 7.5% of the total carbon footprint.

Make carbon footprint information traceable and identifiable

Textile industry will accelerate low-carbon transformation relying on industry scale advantage

Taipingniao demonstrated the first Xinjiang cotton T-shirt product in China to realize the carbon footprint assessment of the whole supply chain process: taipingbird 25th anniversary T-shirt. Each T-shirt has a tag with a QR code to view carbon footprint information in real time.

Taipingbird promises to achieve net zero emission in the whole value chain by 2046, realize carbon neutralization within the operation scope of taipingbird brand by 2035, and trace and identify the carbon footprint information of 100% products of taipingbird before 2030.

For brand companies, the greenhouse gases produced by the supply chain process account for a high proportion, accounting for 75% - 95% of their total emissions. At present, carbon label and carbon tariff are becoming new international trade barriers. Some regions have established product environmental footprint system based on life cycle assessment method, which will have a profound impact on Global trade and China's textile export.

The development of carbon footprint standards and labels promotes the direct comparison of carbon emissions of products, which is conducive to the identification and guidance of green consumption. The attitude and action of enterprises to deal with climate change is affecting product sales, market financing and Global trade.

As the focus of green development, textile and clothing industry has always been in the forefront of climate innovation and sustainable development in China. The first practice of sustainable development of the textile industry and social supply chain started in 2005.

In 2017, China Textile Industry Federation (hereinafter referred to as CFA) launched carbon management innovation 2020 action, which is one of the first industries in China to propose carbon neutral target. In 2019, CFA, as a Contracting Party, signed the UN climate action charter for fashion industry, participated in Global Climate Governance of fashion industry, and upgraded carbon management innovation 2020 action to climate innovation 2030 action.
