737-800 Iran Crash, 737 Max Fall Into A New Scandal, Boeing Cool?
In January 13th, Boeing's new chief executive, David Calhoun, is about to take office. As the market awaits the new moves of the new official, Boeing has been on the cusp once again in the past week. Local time on the morning of January 8th, a Ukraine Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashed in Iran, the company's stock price fell more than 1.5% that day, however, because the parties are different about the cause of the accident, it may be mechanical failure, or may be shot down by the missile, the specific results have not yet been determined, still need to wait for the relevant departments to investigate the results.
Meanwhile, Boeing has submitted more than 100 pages of information report to the US Congress on Boeing 737 Max, which is deeply involved in the 2019 crash scandal. There are many "heavy" dialogues inside Boeing. A Boeing employee claimed that the 737 Max was "clown designed", which led to discontent among many members of Parliament. Although Boeing and regulators have stressed that this report will not affect the safety review of the 737 Max, how to rectify the company's internal culture will become a major issue for Calhoun after taking office.
Boeing in 2020 was enveloped in dense fog.
The accident is suspicious.
On January 8th, Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-800 flew from Khomeini International Airport in Tehran to Kiev, capital of Ukraine. It crashed shortly after take-off. There were no more than 167 passengers and 9 crew members on board.
According to Ukraine foreign minister Vadym Prystaiko, there are 82 Iran people, 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians on board, including two passengers and nine crew members. In addition, there are 10 Swedes, 4 Afghans, 3 Germans and 3 Britons.
At present, the reason for the crash of the aircraft is still uncertain. According to data from flight tracking website FlightRadar24, at 6:12 a.m. local time on January 8th, the plane took off from Tehran Khomeini International Airport and lost contact at 6:14. The plane flew West, but never flew to a height of 8000 feet (5800 meters) above.
Qassem Biniaz, a spokesman for the Ministry of roads and communications in Iran, said after the accident that one of the aircraft's engines was on fire, and the pilot then lost control of the plane, causing the plane to crash.
In addition, after the crash, the Embassy of Ukraine in Iran issued a statement saying that the cause of the crash was to exclude terrorism or rocket attacks. But then the statement was deleted from the Embassy website, and a statement replaced it is premature to draw any conclusions.
John Goglia, a former member of the US National Transportation Safety Board, believes that a single engine failure causing aircraft crash is a rare occurrence.
Ihor Sosnovsky, vice president of Ukraine International Airlines, said in a statement, "in view of the crew experience, there is little possibility of error. We have not even considered such a possibility. "
Actually, this is not the first fatal incident of Boeing 737-800. In March 2016, a Dubai Air Boeing 737-800 from Dubai crashed when it tried to land at Rostov airport on the Russian River, killing 62 people on board. In May 2010, another India Boeing 737-800, which took off from India by Air India Express, crashed while trying to land at India's mango International Airport, killing more than 150 people on board.
In 2019, the Boeing 737-800 aircraft had been the object of the regulator's inspection because many airlines began reporting cracks on the part of the fuselage connected to the wing.
Boeing said last October that airlines around the world had inspected 810 aircraft after receiving orders from the US security regulators, of which 38 aircraft needed to be repaired, accounting for 5% of the total.
Boeing spokesman Paul Bergman told the twenty-first Century economic news reporter that there is no other latest news available except for the company's statement.
Boeing said in a statement on January 8th: "this is a sad event. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the crew, passengers and their families. We keep in touch with our airline customers and support them in this difficult time. We are always ready to provide any assistance we need.
In January 9th, several countries voicing the issue. Daniloff, Secretary of the Ukraine national security and Defense Committee, speculated that the four potential causes of the crash were: the plane was shot down by an air defense missile, collided with other aircraft in the air, terrorist attacks, and technical reasons caused the engine to damage or explode.
Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau held a news conference on 9, said, "we have information from multiple sources, including our allies and our own intelligence", indicating that the plane was shot down by the Iran missile.
President Trump also said he did not believe that mechanical failure caused the crash. "This plane is flying in a very bad area". "Maybe someone has made a mistake."
Ali Abezad, director of the Iran Civil Aviation Authority (Ali Abedzadeh) refuted the statement, calling it "illogical rumors". The preliminary investigation report released by Iran Civil Aviation Organization on 9 showed that the crashed Ukraine International Airlines flight was crashed due to "technical problems", but it did not specify what technical problems the aircraft encountered. The report also showed that the plane tried to turn and return to the airport before it crashed, but then vanished from the radar at the altitude of 2440 meters, and the ground did not receive the help signal from the pilot.
However, the "technical failure" argument can not convince everyone. At present, the black box of the crashed aircraft has been found. In an interview with the twenty-first Century economic report, US pilot James said that the black box is very important, and it can provide the key evidence of what happened before the crash.
However, Abe Chad said that the black box will be analyzed at the site of the accident, which is in line with the provisions of the international civil aviation organization. He stressed that Ukraine investigators will take part in the process, but "we will not give black boxes to manufacturers and Americans."
According to the latest news, Iran has invited representatives of the National Transportation Safety Board, the Ukraine side and the aircraft manufacturer Boeing to join the investigation of the Ukraine air passenger plane crashed in Iran. In addition, the Canadian transport safety board was invited to take part in the investigation of the crash site due to the fact that there were 63 Canadians on the crashed plane.
James stressed to the twenty-first Century economic report reporter that the cause of the crash is very important to Boeing. If it is not a technical fault, then the accident is not Boeing's fault and will not affect its corporate image.
Boeing employees say the 737 Max is "clown design".
The suspicion that the 737-800 passenger plane crashed has not yet dispersed, and Boeing's "backyard" is again on fire. On January 9th, Boeing submitted more than 100 pages of internal information to congressional investigators. According to the information, employees of the company laughed at federal regulations, talked about deception regulators, and joked 737 Max's potential flaws in the development process.
According to the content of the dialogue, these employees seem to be discussing, during the certification of the simulator by the regulators, the company concealed some problems with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It is reported that these simulators were used in the development of Max and used to train pilots who had never driven 737 aircraft before.
"Will you get your family to fly in a Max simulator? I will not do that." A Boeing employee said to a colleague in an exchange. "Neither can I." Replied the colleague.
In another set of information, Boeing employees questioned the design of Max and even slandered their colleagues. "This plane is designed by a clown, and the clown is in turn supervised by monkeys." An employee wrote in an exchange in 2017.
The leakage of these e-mails and instant messages is the latest embarrassing event that Boeing has encountered in this crisis. The crisis has caused Boeing to lose billions of dollars and has caused serious damage to the global aviation industry. There is still no indication of when the 737 Max will be able to fly again, as the company and regulators continue to discover new potential defects in 737 Max.
In January 5th, FAA and Boeing said they were evaluating the electrical wiring at the rear of the 737 Max. It is reported that Boeing is assessing whether the two wires are too close. This may lead to a short circuit. If the pilot fails to respond properly, it may cause the plane to crash. One official said the line problem could delay the return of 737 Max.
Insiders believe that this information may further complicate the tension between Boeing and FAA. However, the company and FAA9 said on average that the information did not cause new security concerns.
Boeing said the company informed FAA on these documents in December last year, although the employee had said he wanted to "cover up" the simulator problem, but it "did not find any case of falsely reporting the simulator qualification to the FAA".
FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford (Lynn Lunsford) said in a statement that the information did not reveal any new security risks. "After reviewing the records of specific simulators mentioned in the document, the agency determined that in the past six months, FAA has carried out three assessments of equipment and obtained a certificate of qualification," said Mr Lawrence. "Any safety hazard identified in the document has been resolved."
"Although the tone and content of some wording in the document are disappointing, FAA is still concerned about the complete procedure so that Boeing 737 Max can be returned," he added.
This information has infuriated a number of congressmen, who regard it as a disregard for security and a broader problem of corporate culture.
Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal said he will push for a new congressional hearing to question the "shocking" message of the Boeing leadership.
Peter DeFazio, chairman of the House Transportation Committee, who is responsible for the investigation of the 737 Max R & D by the house of Representatives, said the newly released message was "extremely bad". DeFazio stressed, "they have portrayed a very disturbing picture showing that Boeing is willing to pay a huge price in order to evade scrutiny from regulators, aircrews and flying people, even if their employees are alarmed internally."
The chairman of the Commerce Committee, Roger Wicker, who is responsible for the investigation of Boeing by the Senate, also said that the latest document "questioned the validity of FAA's supervision of the certification process".
At present, the US Department of justice is conducting a positive criminal investigation of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft. It remains unclear when the result will be.
Boeing said in a statement 9 days ago that the information was disclosed in order to improve the transparency of FAA. However, analysts believe that the news once again aroused the anger of members of the US Congress and brought more pressure to David Calhoun, which will require him to thoroughly reform the company culture after taking office in January 13th and try to repair the relationship with the regulatory authorities.
