Paris, December 2 In the face of the prosperity of second-hand clothing sales platform, some large French groups looked at the business opportunities and hoped to seize a place in the market.

According to the Parisian Daily, the turnover of the French clothing market reached 26 billion euros in 2018, in which second-hand clothing consumed a cake worth 1 billion euros. According to the research data of IFM, nearly one third of French consumers have bought second-hand goods this year, compared with 15% in 2010. It can be said that although the second-hand clothing market is still limited in size, it is booming. According to the current development rate, it is expected that the proportion of second-hand goods in the wardrobe of French consumers will double in 10 years.

According to the report, the main reason for consumers to buy second-hand clothing is economic factors, but environmental awareness and moral considerations are also increasingly important. Gildas Minvielle, head of the Economic Observation Center of the French Fashion Academy, believes that this is a global trend starting from the food field, and the public needs high-quality and inexpensive goods. As a result, although the share of the second-hand market has been growing in the past 10 years, the total value of the fashion market has declined by 15% between 2007 and 2018.

In the face of the prosperity of second-hand clothing sales platforms such as Vinted, Videdressing, Vestiaire Collective and so on, large clothing groups have made efforts to grab cakes. Some brands or clothing companies have incorporated second-hand goods into the development framework, and some independent clothing stores have also opened second-hand goods zones. For example, French children's clothing brands Cyrillus, Petit Bateau and fashion brand store S é zane have created special second-hand trading websites or applications, which can resell their clothes on these platforms. Swedish fast fashion brand H&M has also increased its investment in the second-hand online sales platform Sellpy, but currently only in Sweden for pilot.

In April this year, Galeries Lafayette launched a new hybrid model: the second-hand clothes were sold online, and the field transactions were conducted at Lyon Part Dieu in Lyon. Similarly, clothing stores such as Ï dkids, Oka ï di, Oba ï bi, Jagadi, Oxyul Eveil, etc. hold many barter activities every year, which not only promotes second-hand transactions, but also is a good way to bring customers into the store to promote new clothes.
