California Has Become The First Anti Fur State In The United States. Since 2023, New Animal Fur Products Have Been Totally Banned.
A few days ago, the California state government announced that it would prohibit the donation, production and sale of new animal fur products since January 1, 2023. The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, signed the law in October 11th and approved the bill to be included in California law.
Gavin Newsom said in a statement that the ban is "the most powerful animal rights law in the history of the United States". This means that under the initiative of animal rights activists, California has become the first anti fur state in the United States, involving clothing, bags, shoes and other products made from animal fur. Those who violate the act will be penalized by civil law.
The ban does not apply to second-hand fur products and fur products made by Native Americans for spiritual and cultural purposes. At the same time, the ban does not cover leather products, wool products or animal specimens. The fur obtained from hunting permission is still legal.
The Humane Society of the United States is pleased that its CEO and chairman, Kitty Block, said: "every year, more than 100 million animals will suffer and die because of the fur industry. The animals cultured in the fur factory farms are not only living in crowded and narrow metal cages, but also deprived of their ability to conduct natural behaviors, and before they are brutally killed, they are inhaling toxic gases or being struck by electricity."
Gavin Newsom also signed a series of other laws on the prevention of cruelty to animals on the same day. For example, there are no animals such as tigers, bears and elephants in the circus performance. It is forbidden to kill and kill Bobcats, slaughter horses, etc.
Before the California government, the municipal government of two major cities in California, Losangeles and San Francisco, had issued the relevant injunction. In March 2018, the San Francisco City Council passed the law prohibiting the fur trade and became the largest anti fur city in the United States. Since January January 2019, retailers selling fur clothing in San Francisco will face a fine of $500 / piece, the higher the amount.
Kitty Block said: "signing the AB44 act shows that today's consumers do not want wild animals to bear the additional pain and fear brought by fashion trends."
Before that, many fashion and luxury brands such as Gucci, Versace, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Jimmy Choo have announced that they no longer use fur.
