China Exports Cotton Production Technology To Tajikistan To Help Local Development

After years of importing cotton from Tajikistan, China has begun to export cotton technology to this Central Asian country since this year. In the next 3 years, Chinese scientists will introduce cotton pest integrated control technology in Tajikistan for many years, and provide technical support for local cotton production.

The reporter learned from the Xinjiang Institute of ecology and geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the "middle tower" undertaken by the scientific research institution cotton A comprehensive and mature cotton pest integrated control technology system will be introduced into Tajikistan. This is the first time that China has exported cotton production technology to Tajikistan.

According to the project leader of Xinjiang Institute of natural science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mechanics At present, the yield of lint per mu in Tajikistan is only 60 kg, and the yield of Xinjiang lint per mu is 120 kg ~150 kg. With the launch of the project, the Xinjiang Institute of biotechnology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will cooperate with the Institute of zoology of the Tajikistan Academy of Sciences. Plan to use 3 years to help Tajikistan establish 10~12 pest monitoring station, basically build a warning and prevention and control platform for cotton pests, and vigorously promote biological control and physical control technology, and establish a comprehensive cotton pest comprehensive technology system in Tajikistan. And in the Tajik construction demonstration area, training scientific and technological personnel, expanding the scope of application, to provide technical support for cotton production in Tajikistan.

According to the agreement between the two sides, our scientific research personnel plan to build 10 to 12 pest monitoring stations in this Central Asian country in 3 years, and basically build a warning and prevention platform for cotton pests. In addition, scientists in China will also train large numbers of agricultural scientists and technicians in the region to expand the application of biological control and physical control techniques.

Xinjiang is one of the largest high quality cotton producing areas in China and even the world. It has basically formed a technical system combining cotton breeding, high quality, high yield, high efficiency and water saving with high effective comprehensive prevention and control of harmful organisms. Tajikistan is an important cotton producer in Central Asia. Spin China's cotton production exceeded 500 thousand tons in 2012, and its climate and natural environment are similar to that of the Tarim Basin, the main cotton growing area in China. In recent years, a wide range of pests and diseases in cotton fields in Tajikistan has been widespread, which greatly affects the development of local cotton industry.

It is understood that Tajik completed 193 thousand hectares of cotton planting area in 2013, a decrease of 7000 hectares over last year, and estimated 415 thousand tons of cotton production, the same as last year's output. In January 2013, Tajikistan exported 23 thousand tons of cotton and export volume of US $35 million 800 thousand, an increase of 75.9% over the same period last year. The main export countries are Turkey, Iran, Russia and Latvia. Tajik seed cotton output was 417 thousand tons in 2012.
