Footwear Exports In Heshan Dropped Sharply

In the first three quarters of this year, Heshan footwear exports (without shoes and boots) were down 15.9% from the same period last year.

China is the largest footwear producer and exporter in the world. According to the statistics of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, China's footwear industry accounts for 63% of the world's total. However, in the first three quarters of this year, China's footwear industry encountered an unprecedented cold wave in overseas markets. As a "Guangdong men's shoes production base", Heshan also failed to avoid this cold spell.

According to customs statistics, in the first three quarters of this year, Heshan exported footwear (excluding shoes and footwear parts) to US $52 million 119 thousand, down 15.9% from the same period last year.

In the first three quarters of this year, Heshan exported footwear by processing trade $31 million 100 thousand, down 2.9% compared with the same period last year, accounting for 59.7% of Heshan's footwear exports in the same period, 20 million 886 thousand US dollars in general trade mode, 30.2% lower than the same period last year, 8 million 243 thousand pairs of export footwear exported by foreign investment enterprises in Heshan, and 24 million 996 thousand US dollars in export value, 33% and 25.2% respectively, representing a total export volume.

Meanwhile, Heshan's exports to major export markets declined sharply, and exports to Japan increased.

In the first three quarters of this year, Heshan exported footwear to the United States $23 million 235 thousand, down 26% from the same period last year, accounting for 44.6% of Heshan's footwear exports. In the same period, it exported 7 million 484 thousand US dollars to Japan, an increase of 5.6%, accounting for 15%; exports to Hongkong of 7 million 467 thousand US dollars, decreased by 10.3%, accounting for 14.3%;

  

Many factors affect exports

In addition, the continued appreciation of the renminbi, the reduction of the export tax rebate rate and the implementation of the new labor contract law have gradually reduced the cost advantages of Jiangmen shoe enterprises and increased the pressure of survival.

Two, frequent anti-dumping barriers.

In October 7, 2006, the EU imposed anti-dumping sanctions against Chinese leather shoes and imposed a 16.5% anti-dumping duty on leather shoes originating in China for a period of 2 years.

At the same time, Pakistan, Peru, Venezuela, Canada and other countries have also taken anti-dumping measures on China's footwear products.

At present, it is particularly noteworthy that, at the end of the EU anti-dumping, the European footwear Federation has decided to extend the anti-dumping measures to Chinese leather shoes to the EU for 5 years. If it is achieved, it will undoubtedly be a heavy blow to China's footwear industry.

At present, most of the domestic shoemaking enterprises still belong to the raw materials processing. They have been making export orders for overseas customers in Taiwan, Hongkong and Korea, Europe and the United States. They do not belong to their own brands and markets, and the technical content of shoemaking is not high and easy to copy. Once the cost is increased, many customers will pfer their orders to the Southeast Asian region with low cost, so the enterprises will go bankrupt.

According to the statistics of the footwear association of Asia at the end of 2007, more than 1000 of the more than 5000 shoemaking enterprises in Guangdong were closed down last year.

  

    海关建议:加强自主品牌建设  

To this end, the customs recommended that the government of Heshan should first guide and encourage shoemaking enterprises to strengthen their own brand building and increase the added value of their products.

We will vigorously support the pformation and upgrading of footwear processing trade enterprises, promote networking supervision and electronic manuals, improve the efficiency of customs clearance, reduce the operating costs of enterprises, enhance the competitiveness of the market, play the role of trade associations, and unite with interest groups such as retailers such as exporting countries to actively respond to anti-dumping.

Efforts should be made to develop new markets and pay attention to domestic market sales and resolve export risks.

At the same time, the customs advised the government to introduce relevant policies, give policy support to capital loans and help enterprises tide over difficulties.
