Export Difficulties Quanzhou Private Entrepreneurs Show Tenacity In Their Anxiety And Perseverence

The private entrepreneurs of Quanzhou who have been relieved of the mood of the Olympic Games for sixteen days by the curtain of the Beijing Olympic Games, which Mr. Roger called "incomparable", have returned to the difficult days of "anxiety and persistence".

Ms. Chen Qiongling is the owner of a well known bag manufacturing company in Quanzhou. The company, which has gained the local government's "contract keeping" and "tax credit", has encountered unprecedented difficulties in the export enterprises nationwide.

"To be honest, the company has been in a state of deficit for several consecutive months, and production orders in September are still less than half of its production capacity."

Ms. Chen told reporters privately that her situation in the local bag manufacturer was also known as "better", which shows that the industry is in a difficult position.

According to incomplete statistics, there are a total of three point six private enterprises in Quanzhou as a major private economy, and most of them are traditional labor intensive industries such as textiles, clothing, shoes and hats, food and building materials.

Therefore, in the overall export difficulties, Quanzhou enterprises have been unprecedentedly affected.

"This is the most difficult year since its establishment, and its difficulty is more than that of the 1997 financial crisis in Southeast Asia. At that time, prices did not rise."

In the 80s of last century, Mr. Shi told reporters that he was an export processing plant in Jinjiang, Fujian, China's shoe capital.

Zhu Ming, mayor of Quanzhou, also admitted that "Quanzhou's economy has encountered unprecedented difficulties and problems."

According to preliminary estimates by trade associations, the textile and garment industry in this city has been affected by about ten percent to twelve this year. The footwear industry has been affected by about twenty percent, and the marble processing industry in the stone industry has been affected by about fifty percent.

Although the governments at all levels have taken a series of measures to help enterprises tide over difficulties, such as exports and financing, the economy has maintained a steady and rapid growth.

Although entrepreneurs have also played the role and characteristics of being bold in dealing with and adapting to changes, they have adopted effective measures such as expanding domestic market and international emerging markets, avoiding exchange rate risks by means of quotations and RMB settlement, importing advanced equipment, introducing advanced production technology, accelerating the pace of innovation, and partially digesting the rising production costs. However, compared with the large private enterprise groups, it is still very few to cope with such difficulties effectively. After all, a large number of enterprises are in a state of small profits, capital preservation and slight losses.

"Hundreds of thousands of workers have been following you for a long time, just like children who raised their children from childhood. How can we see them lose their jobs overnight? So even if there is any big difficulty, we have to choose to stick to it."

The boss of Jinjiang Zhenxing shoe company tells the truth.

The anxiety caused by persistence has already appeared.

"The problem is, so far, there is no sign of improvement."

Ms. Chen said that her European and American customers did not have no orders, but they could not pick up their orders. "Since last year, production costs have increased by 20 percent, and the price of customer orders is two years ago."

Zhang manager of Jinjiang import and export company also confirmed the situation: one of her Italy customers brought more than 100 orders to Jinjiang, and "had a hard negotiation for several days, because the price problem could not be negotiated into an order, so the customer had to turn to other countries."

As the saying goes, no one will do business at a loss.

But entering the small and medium-sized private enterprises in Quanzhou, reporters found many Quanzhou bosses, because of local reasons, but also because of a sense of responsibility, is indeed doing a loss at the business, to solve the employment problem of nearly two million migrant workers.
