The Labor Federation of Vietnam said that the labor law stipulates that the number of working hours per worker should not exceed 48 hours per week, which is higher than that of the rest of the world. Therefore, it is suggested that the government put the new regulations on the weekly working hours of labour into the draft amendment to the labour law, and reduce the working hours to no more than 44 hours per week.

The Vietnamese parliament is seeking advice on the draft amendment to the labour law, and will pass the vote. It is expected that the new law will be implemented from 2021.

The labor daily website reported that the 9 Labor Conference of the Vietnamese labour Federation held the seventh meeting of the bureau to focus on the draft amendment to the labour law. Labour workers and other topics were concerned by the delegates.

Wu Weixiao (Ngo Duy Hieu), vice president of the Labor Federation, said that the current labor law stipulates that the normal working hours of workers should not exceed 48 hours, which is higher than that of many other countries in the world. The reduction of working hours is based on the human progress trend of productivity development, ensuring the improvement of labour productivity, but it should also ensure that workers have enough time to rest, restore physical strength, take care of their families and participate in other social activities.

Wu Wei said that since the implementation of the 40 hour working system in Vietnam in 1999, the difference between the working hours of the workers and the civil servants has resulted in workplace inequalities over the years. In addition to helping to ensure the health of workers, the reduction of working hours also provides impetus for the operators to improve their production facilities, improve their management capabilities and improve their productivity.

The report pointed out that the opinions of Wu Wei Xiao were approved by many participants, and the labor federation agreed that the Congress should include the new regulations of the workers' weekly working hours in the draft amendment to the labour law, and reduce the working hours per week to no more than 48 hours to 44 hours.
