When the two are competing, the fish will benefit.

Who is the fisherman in the "struggle" between China and the US?

Maybe Bangladesh and Indonesia.

According to foreign media reports, Bangladesh insiders said that in the context of escalating Sino US trade disputes, Bangladesh's clothing exports will achieve rapid growth in the current fiscal year (fiscal year 2018-2019).

Indonesian industry minister Airlangga Hartarto also said recently that Sino US trade war provided new opportunities for Indonesia's development.

Data from the Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) show that between July 2018 and February 2019, the export income of garment exports increased by 14.17% over the same period last year, reaching US $23 billion 120 million.

In addition, the export of woven garments increased by 14.84% to $11 billion 630 million, while knitwear exports increased by 13.50% to $11 billion 490 million.

"The growth of clothing exports in China is mainly influenced by the Sino US trade war. Many factories orders are moving from China to Bangladesh due to the continuous trade war between the United States and China."

M Siddiqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh garment manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said yesterday to the new state newspaper of the country.

Siddiqur Rahman pointed out that after rectification and control, the garment factory in China has taken on a new look, and people's working environment has also been greatly improved. The image of Bangladesh's garment industry has greatly improved, and many international buyers are willing to take the order to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is the world's second largest garment exporter after China. Siddiqur Rahman said: "from 2018, Bangladesh received orders from US buyers continued to grow.

In the wake of the escalating trade tensions between the US and China, US retailers have adopted a diversified procurement strategy.

Siddiqur Rahma added: "in 2018, our clothing exports to the United States increased by 6.65%."

Official data released by the US Department of textiles and clothing office (OTEXA) showed that Bangladesh's clothing exports to the US market in 2018 were $5 billion 400 million, compared with $5 billion 60 million in 2017.

By contrast, China's clothing exports to the US in 2018 increased by only 1.34% to $27 billion 370 million (33% of the US market share).

"The current trend of garment exports is encouraging.

It is expected that this trend will continue in the coming months to help Bangladesh apparel industry achieve two digit growth in the current fiscal year, "Siddiqur Rahma said.

According to Bangladesh's Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh exported $30 billion 610 million worth of clothing products in the last fiscal year, up 8.76% over the same period last year.

In fiscal year 2017-2018, clothing accounted for 83% of Bangladesh's total exports.

"Sino US trade war has created a very good opportunity for Bangladesh's clothing exporters.

Bangladesh's clothing export earnings will continue to soar in the trade conflict. "

Abdus Salam Murshedy, former chairman of BGMEA, told the new China Daily.

Abdus Salam points out that tariffs have led to higher costs for US retailers to purchase goods and manufactures goods in China. In order to control costs, many US retailers are moving from China to a cost saving manufacturing center like Bangladesh.

"A large number of sellers from the United States will support China's clothing exports and help our garment industry achieve rapid growth in the current fiscal year," added Abdus Salam.

New opportunities in Indonesia

Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia's industry minister, said many companies producing textiles and footwear are exploring opportunities to move production from China to Indonesia.

In addition, Airlangga Hartarto also pointed out that Indonesia is exporting more steel to the United States.

Indonesian trade ministry data showed that between January 2018 and November, Indonesia's steel exports to the United States increased by 87.7% over the same period last year, while Indonesia's overall exports to the United States increased by 3%.

However, Indonesian Minister of industry Airlangga also said that aside from the opportunities that Indonesia will not get, trade wars may eventually damage the global economic development, which is not good for all countries. "I think the slow growth of the new normal is bad for everyone.

It is not enough for the Indonesian people to create jobs. "
