According to the financial times, some of the world's largest apparel and footwear companies Manufacturer Retailers and retailers are studying a plan to label the shirts, trousers and shoes that are sold around the world, showing how the production and use of the products will have an impact on the environment.
This plan will constitute one of the most ambitious plans of the clothing industry: create a set of standards for different types of manufacturing products to measure the environmental impact of all aspects of the production of a garment.
The scheme has been supported by the following companies:
Wal-Mart
(Walmart), Gap, JC Penney, Levi's (Levi Strauss), Nike (Nike), Martha department store (Marks and Spencer), Adidas (Adidas),
H&M
And Li Fung, a large textile supplier.
